About the Crodeon Weather Station

Measure whatever and wherever you want. Without worrying about power or connectivity. Our system is compatible with solar power, grid power and is connected to the internet through cellular data.

The Weather Kit Basic can measure multiple parameters at the same time: wind (average, peak, direction), rain, temperature (dry bulb, wet bulb, dew point) and relative humidity. The Crodeon weather station is unique in the following way: it lets you connect up to three extra sensors. You can easily measure soil moisture, leaf wetness or the growth rate of your trees and fruit using a dendrometer.

Most of the weather stations that you’ll find do not have the possibility to add extra sensors. The Weather Kit Pro also measures soil moisture, leaf wetness and humidity & temperature in another location. As it already features three extra sensors, additional sensors cannot be connected.

A professional remote monitoring weather station can measure in agricultural, and research applications while simultaneously streaming its measurements to the cloud.

When you combine a professional weather station with a remote monitoring module like Reporter, you can view live data, change your measurement interval, and set alarm notifications. These alarm notifications allow you to stay up to date about the weather. Receive an alarm notification when your set limit for wind speed is exceeded.

Sensors & measurements

Rain is measured in the professional all in one weather station using a physical tipping bucket sensor and a measurement area of 96mm diameter. One tilt represents 400ml of rain per square meter.

Wind measurement consists of three parameters included in the all in one weather station: average wind speed, peak wind speed and wind direction.

The Crodeon Dashboard calculates wind speeds based on the wind conditions that occur in between measurement points. The higher the measurement interval, the more frequently the wind speeds will be calculated and updated. These wind speeds are calculated by using the average and maximum speeds recorded during the measurement interval. Options for measuring intervals are 30sec, 1min, 2min, 5min, 10min, 15min, 20min, 30min, 1 hour and 2 hours.

Wind direction is measured in 16 steps: N, NNE, NE, ENE, E, ESE, SE, SSE, S, SSW, SW, WSW, W, WNW, NW, NNW.

Temperature (wet bulb, dry bulb & dew point) and humidity are measured by the on-board Sensirion SHT30 sensor chip. All measured by one sensor so you don’t need to buy different sensors for your professional weather station.

The Weather Kit Pro contains 3 additional sensors:

  • Leaf wetness sensor: Leaf wetness
  • Humidity temperature sensor: Relative humidity and temperature
  • Soil moisture sensor: Soil moisture (volumetric water content)

Why choose the Crodeon weather station?

Plug & Play

From all the weather stations out there, only very few are as easy to install as the Crodeon system that uses Reporter. The system is plug & play which means that you literally just have to plug the sensor cable into the sensor module (Reporter) and the system will go live.

Fast & Easy

Go live within minutes after you installed your Crodeon all in one weather station. There is no need for technical knowledge.

Your professional weather station works out of the box. You don’t have to worry about programming or connecting tiny copper wires. Just plug the cable in and start measuring.

Add multiple sensors

You don’t have to check if sensors are compatible or if they are able to be combined. All of our sensors work with Reporter, no matter the combination. Measure pressure on a pipe, measure distance with an ultrasonic sensor, and measure water level with a submersible sensor. No matter how unique the combination, it will work.

Real-time data in the cloud 24/7

The weather stations connect directly to the Crodeon Dashboard, our cloud platform. Access the Dashboard through the browser on your smartphone, tablet or pc, wherever you are and view your data 24/7.

Cellular connectivity

Getting a WiFi connection in a remote destination can be a real challenge. This is why Reporter works on cellular data. A GSM connection means that Reporter is able to send out data wherever you’re able to make a call. Which is practically everywhere.

Solar powered

Remote destinations do not only prove to be a challenge when it comes to connectivity, we cannot forget about power supply. Grid power is unlikely to be available in a field in the middle of nowhere or at the top of a mountain. But we can always rely on the sun. For precisely this reason we chose to make our all in one weather station solar-powered in addition to being compatible with grid power.

Accurate & Reliable

When we need to measure and monitor a professional project we need our equipment to be accurate and reliable. Without it, our data would be useless. You can count on Reporter and its professional weather station to be your helping hand.

Affordability

What makes Reporter unique is the ease with which you can install the system. No technical knowledge is required, no technicians are required. This saves you a lot of time and money when you eliminate the overhead that such a system usually comes with.

Peace of mind

When you choose to use the Crodeon professional all in one weather station, you can be sure to let your worries drift away. There’s no need to worry about your project, just simply log in to the Crodeon Dashboard and look at the latest data. Or set alarm notifications, this way you’ll be notified when something is off. This is no option, the alarm function is a key feature of our system. All of the weather stations are equipped with Reporter and are therefore able to be your extra (remote) pair of eyes.

Installation of the Crodeon all in one weather station

  • Make sure the sensor is fixed to a sturdy pole or surface. It shouldn't be able to move or wobble, as this would affect the measurements.
  • It is advised to mount the professional all in one weather station at a height of at least 2 meters above the ground in order to obtain reliable data. Ideally situated at a horizontal distance that measures four times the height of the closest impediment.
  • The arrow with the letter "N" in it should face north.
  • The spirit level must be level.

FAQ

What sensors are used in weather stations?

A weather station is equipped with a rain sensor (tipping bucket), a temperature and humidity sensor and two wind sensors to measure both wind direction (wind vane) and speed (anemometer). The Crodeon all in one weather station measures: rain, dew point, dry bulb temperature, wet bulb temperature and relative humidity, but also average wind speed, wind peak speed and wind direction.

What is a weather station used for?

Weather stations are used to measure and monitor the weather. They will collect data about when it rained, how much it rained, whether there was wind, how strong the wind was and from what direction it came. They also measure and log the temperature and relative humidity. During their measuring period they will send out their data at regular intervals which gives you an extensive and detailed overview of the weather at the location you chose to research.

Do you need WiFi for a weather station?

When you choose a professional all in one weather station you do not need to have a stable WiFi connection. The Crodeon system that uses Reporter works solely on cellular data.

What is a professional weather station?

A professional remote monitoring weather station is a reliable and accurate monitoring tool that lets you both collect data and monitor your project. It should stream its data to a cloud platform in realtime and it should be able to send out alarm notifications.

What should I look for when buying a weather station?

Depending on what project you need to monitor the weather for you might have different needs. Do you have to monitor the weather in a remote place, opt for a system that works on solar power and cellular data. Do you need to measure multiple parameters like PAR or soil moisture? Opt for a system that lets you connect multiple extra sensors. A professional weather station like Reporter allows you to fully customise your installation as you please.

Are weather stations worth it?

If you want to have accurate and reliable data about your research site, construction site, orchard, vineyard etc. then yes. A professional set-up will let you collect all the data you desire which you can use for further research and analysis.
